Scope of Work:

  • Lead, develop, and grow FSM (Fifth and Sixth Ministry, Grades 5-6) and JHM (Junior High Ministry, grades 7-8) in a Christ-centered, evangelistically focused, and small group discipleship model that embodies the Purpose Church vision, mission, and values.
  • Recruit, train, and manage the FSM and JHM volunteer teams of adult leaders.
  • Collaborate and serve with broader pastoral team at Purpose Church.

Reporting Relationship:

  • Responsible to the Student Ministries Pastor.

Specific Duties:

  • Leadership and participation in the Student Ministries Department and with the Staff.
    • In partnership with the Student Ministries Staff, maintain a strong connectedness in systems, philosophy, and vision between the three Student Ministries departments (FSM, JHM, & HSM).
      • FSM – Fifth and Sixth Ministry (Grades 5-6)
      • JHM – Junior High Ministry (Grades 7-8)
      • HSM – High School Ministry (Grades 9-12)
    • Stay uber organized and structured with teams, systems, and implementation of the vision, mission, and values into FSM and JHM.
    • Commit to and involvement in regular Student Ministries Team meetings.
  • Leadership of all FSM and JHM programs.
    • Brainstorm, plan, and adequately resource and supply what’s needed to evangelize and disciple students through weekly programs, serving opportunities, events, trips, and camps.
    • Provide and implement a biblically strong and developmentally focused curriculum for big group teaching and small groups.
    • Communicate with small group leaders and volunteers effectively and in advance.
    • Lead, delegate, and supervise engaging, fun, developmentally appropriate, and life-changing weekly programs.
    • Cultivate and manage communication channels with parents and students.
  • Build a healthy team of small group leaders and volunteers.
    • Recruit, train, empower, and develop FSM and JHM small group leaders and teams that love students, partner with parents, and lead life-changing small groups.
    • Meet with small group leaders regularly and provide feedback, coaching and encouragement.
    • Lead regular small group leader meetings to connect, grow, and collaborate.
  • Transition students into and out of FSM & JHM.
    • Partner with Purpose Kids, Student Ministries, and Purpose Church parents to spiritually grow students over a four-year period, and transition them into and out of FSM, JHM, and HSM.
    • Intentionally transition incoming 5th grade students and their parents into FSM.
    • Intentionally transition FSM students and their parents into JHM.
    • Intentionally transition outgoing 8th grade students and their parents into HSM.
  • Ensure physical environments are safe, clean, and welcoming for students.
  • Provide pastoral care to students, families, small group leaders, and other volunteers.
  • Plan and execute yearly calendar of events, camps, and activities (three seasons: Fall, Spring, Summer).
  • Design, plan, and conduct annual parent meetings in order to inform parents of ministry goals, foster parent-to-ministry partnerships, and develop relationships with them.
  • Fulfill essential pastoral needs of Purpose Church including, but not limited to, weekend pastoral duties, pastor on call, weddings, funerals, holiday season, event assignments, etc.
  • Prepare yearly budget and provide regular oversight of spending.
  • Attend weekly Purpose Church Staff and Leadership meetings.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Student Ministries Pastor or the Executive Team.

  • Must have a passion for growing in your own relationship with Jesus through Scripture reading, prayer, serving, and leading teams and students in a biblical way.
  • Must articulate a passion for the outreach and discipleship of new and assimilated students and their families.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Must pursue consistent awareness of changing culture themes, trends, and norms related to student life.
  • Must be supportive of and invested in the small group philosophy and strategy for evangelism and discipleship of students and the importance of raising up small group leaders to invest in students and multiply ministry.
  • Ability to resolve conflict in a healthy way.
  • Must have a passion for communicating Scripture to students.
  • Four years of ministry experience.
  • Bachelor of Education in Ministry or equivalent education through experience.
  • Ability to work and collaborate with Student Ministries Team, small group leaders, volunteers, and people within the church, and participate on the pastoral team.
  • Computer skills including knowledge of mainstream word processing programs, Google Suite, Social Media platforms, digital communication methods, etc.
  • Must have experience in, sensitivity with, and a passion for a mid-urban ministry setting and the variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
